The Brooks Bandits unchecked reign has been stopped by the Spruce Grove Saints.

The previously undefeated team lost 5-4 in Grant Fuhr Arena Saturday. This moves them to 22-1 in the Alberta Junior Hockey League’s 2019 season and the Saints are now at 17-5 in the Viterra AJHL North Division of the league. The Bandits play the bulk of their game in the south.

The Saints were on top in the first period with three goals from Ryan Peckford, Reid Schaefer and Sam Popowich to the one Bandits point from rookie Sean Chisholm. Two more goals in the second came from each side to line up with each team’s five shots on goal in the period before Adam Hall struck the decisive blow 16 minutes into the third to close the deal for the Saints and make the Bandits go home with loss.

The Saints are in action again Tuesday at home against the Lloydminster Bobcats. The match begins at 7 p.m.
