The group of people who are not getting the credit that they are due is the grocery and gas station/convenience store workers.
The COVID-19 outbreak has forever changed our world. We are all adjusting to job loss, store closures and the fear of what is and has yet to happen. We are all grateful to all the healthcare workers who are risking their lives for us.
The group of people who are not getting the credit that they are due is the grocery and gas station/convenience store workers. The unbelievable treatment I have seen and heard of is unacceptable. They, too, risk their health and well being so we can maintain some kind of normal in our lives and yet they have been sworn at and disrespected on a daily basis.
People are ranting to clerks about why there is no toilet paper or flour or yeast as if it is personally the clerk’s fault. I have personally seen people not only ignore but ridicule the six-foot spacing marks that are there for EVERYONE’S safety. People have scoffed at the protective Plexiglass barrier that is there to protect both customers and employees. Clerks have been sworn at and ignored when they have asked people to please respect social distancing.
These essential service employees have their own personal stress and fear of contamination but do not have the option to self-isolate. They leave the safety of their homes every day and deserve not only our appreciation but our respect and gratitude. Let’s put the civil back in civilization.
