Who doesn’t love a good old-fashioned garage sale?

In an effort to help pay off its new location, the Stony Plain Public Library is hosting a “Garage and Book Sale” on Friday, Jun. 25 and Saturday, Jun. 26.

The event will be co-hosted by theFriends of the Library, a fundraising team consisting of enthusiastic residents who value the library and the services it provides to the community.

“We’ve just moved into our new building and a part of that includes new furnishings. Consequently, that means some of the things that we had in our old library did not make the trip with us,” said Stony Plain Public Library Director Mark McHale.

Items for sale will consist of leftover furniture from the library’s previous location including tables, seating, shelving, and odds and ends. In addition, a large selection of books will be available for purchase as well. McHale said the library is long overdue for a book sale because of the pandemic. Typically, the facility hosts two sizeable sales in any given year but health restrictions have hindered its ability to do so adequately. With Stage Two of the province’s reopening plan now underway, more books and more people are expected to be present.

With the new facility ringing in at roughly $1.8 million, McHale joked that he doesn’t think the Garage and Book sale will quite “cover the whole cost.” However, he said he is hoping to raise a “couple of thousand dollars” by the time all is said and done.

The event will be held at the library’s old location (4613 52 Ave, Suite 112) from 1:00 PM–7:00 PM on Friday, and 10:00 PM–4:00 PM on Saturday.
